This plot illustrates the problem in OpenPIV approach to measure the second peak. Removing the tip of the first peak is working only when the peaks are really sharp and their basis is smaller than the smoothed part, or when the second peak is like a small mountain peak next to the major one. In the case as it is shown here, the OpenPIV Matlab version would not work. (the Python version needs further tests)
